Tricia Richardson-Roberts, a school counselor at James S. Hunt Elementary School, has been named the 2025–2026 Broward County Public Schools Elementary School Counselor of the Year.
“This recognition is incredibly humbling, as it reflects the collective support of my colleagues, administrators, students, and families who inspire me every day,” Richardson-Roberts said to Coral Springs Talk.
At James S. Hunt Elementary, she works with students on academic, social, and emotional development. She also serves as the site director for the 5000 Role Models of Excellence program, mentoring students and helping them build leadership skills, character, and confidence.
School officials said her work focuses on ensuring students feel supported and encouraged as they work toward their goals.
A resident of Lauderhill, Richardson-Roberts has spent 9 years in education, supporting students and families. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a concentration in counseling from Paine College and later received a master’s degree in school counseling from Nova Southeastern University.
Before entering the field of school counseling, Richardson-Roberts worked with Henderson Behavioral Health. According to school officials, the experience helped shape her focus on supporting the social and emotional well-being of children and families.
She said that serving as a school counselor is more than a role; it is a calling.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to advocate for, support, and empower students as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally.”
