Coral Springs officials will host a community town hall later this month to address growing safety concerns surrounding electric bikes, scooters, and similar devices.
The City of Coral Springs, along with its police and fire departments, will hold an E-Bike Safety Town Hall on Tuesday, March 31, at 6 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 9500 W. Sample Road.
The event follows the launch of the Coral Springs Police Department’s E-Bike and E-Moto Safety Awareness and Enforcement Campaign, which aims to address an increase in crashes involving electric bicycles, electric motorcycles, and electric scooters.
According to the city, since September 2025, Coral Springs Police have responded to 49 crashes involving these devices. According to the city, most of the operators involved were juveniles, and only one rider was wearing a helmet.
“Protecting our community, especially our children, is a shared responsibility,” Commissioner Joshua Simmons said in a statement. “We’ve seen firsthand the consequences when these devices are operated unsafely. Our priority is prevention through education, awareness, and partnership with parents, which is why I requested we host a town hall to address these issues.”
City officials say the meeting will focus on local regulations, enforcement efforts, and ways families can help improve safety.
Under Coral Springs ordinances, e-bikes and motorized scooters may be operated on sidewalks if they travel no faster than 15 mph. Riders must slow to 5 mph when within 25 feet of pedestrians. Electric devices are not permitted in city parks.
Devices that exceed e-bike specifications are classified as motorcycles and must meet additional state requirements, including licensing and registration. Florida law also requires riders under age 16 operating an e-bike to wear a helmet.
