Coral Springs Moves to Upgrade Its High-Tech Security Systems

Coral Springs is moving ahead with a new contract to upgrade the city’s high-tech security and lockdown systems, city records show.
The city released a request for proposals (RFP) calling for firms to submit bids this month for what officials describe as comprehensive work on its advanced security technology. A public bid opening was expected to be held at City Hall.
The winning contractor will be tasked with maintaining and expanding the city’s proprietary lockdown infrastructure—an existing system featuring lockdown mechanisms and advanced security features—while also integrating hi-tech surveillance cameras, access controls, and compatibility with Coral Springs’ Real-Time Crime Center video feeds.
“Any vendor proposing an alternative solution must demonstrate full interoperability with the existing lockdown infrastructure,” officials wrote.
The company that wins the security tech contract would potentially perform work to protect City Hall, Coral Springs Charter School, the Coral Springs Police Department Crime Scene Unit, the Coral Springs Center for the Arts, and several other city properties, city records show.
In addition to upkeep, the city wants the winning bidder to provide design and engineering plans for new facility lockdown and public address systems – as well as around-the-clock technical support and emergency response availability, according to the documents.
Michael McNally, Coral Springs’ director of Community Engagement and Emergency Preparedness, said the city could not discuss specific details about its security infrastructure, system capabilities, or any site-specific information, “as doing so could potentially expose vulnerabilities and increase risk to our personnel and facilities.”
“What I can share is that the city continuously evaluates opportunities to enhance safety and security through modern technologies and best practices,” McNally said. “This RFP reflects our ongoing commitment to improving our ability to protect employees, visitors, and the community in alignment with current industry standards.”
The bid documents laid out technical requirements in detail but did not specify the overall budget, meaning residents will need to wait until after the procurement process to learn the financial scope.
