A man shot to death in Coral Springs earlier this month was killed by a gunman who lay in wait outside his house and may have followed him home from a Broward strip club, court records show.
Marc Examon, 27, was killed by Carl Auguste, 26, outside Examon’s home at 4111 NW 66th Terrace around 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 9, after the two men exchanged gunfire, according to Coral Springs Police.
According to newly released court records, Examon and his live-in girlfriend were in the bottle service section of The Playhouse Gentlemen’s Club in West Park until 4 a.m. and may have been cased there by a group of clubgoers.
After Examon and his girlfriend left the club, he backed his white Range Rover into his driveway. There, Auguste appeared at his driver’s side window with a gun and tried to rob him of his watch, necklace, and other possessions, the records allege.
Auguste was allegedly dropped off and driven from the homicide scene by a woman in a gray Honda Civic, whose name is being withheld by Coral Springs Talk because she has not been arrested. Police have interviewed her, records show.
It was unclear whether Auguste and his getaway driver were working with anyone else in the strip club.
Auguste reached Examon’s home about one minute before he and his girlfriend pulled into the driveway, and he was hiding beside the house before ambushing Examon, according to police.
Property records show Examon purchased the home for $650,000 in June 2021.
Detectives reviewing surveillance video captured by a nearby security camera heard around six shots during the crime, two from a 40-caliber Smith and Wesson pistol recovered from Examon’s driveway and four from a 9-millimeter pistol, the records show.
Examon was shot multiple times. Auguste was shot in his left leg, a bullet shattering his femur, records show.
Police said Auguste is the man seen in the surveillance video limping toward the getaway car, which stopped to pick him up after the murder.
In an interview with police, Auguste’s getaway driver claimed she took him to the hospital after finding him wounded by gunshots outside an underground club near Commercial Boulevard, where they had gone together before she left to buy cigarettes.
But a GPS device in the Civic they rode in to reach and later flee the homicide scene told a different story, the records show.
Coral Springs Police Captain Ryan Gallagher on Friday said the investigation into Examon’s killing is ongoing, “but it is important that we reassure our residents that this was an isolated incident in which the victim was targeted.”
Examon’s murder was not the first shooting in which The Playhouse Gentlemen’s Club was mentioned in investigative records.
A drive-by shooting left three people injured outside the club in July, and in October, a Coral Springs man who had been partying at the club was targeted by armed robbers, leading to a shootout in the street outside his house, records show.
Auguste was being held without bond at the North Broward Bureau Jail Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder and multiple violations of his probation, records show.
