Police have arrested the killer who fatally shot a Coral Springs resident on Jan. 9, investigators said.
Carl Auguste, 26, murdered Marc Examon, 27, in the driveway of Examon’s home at 4111 NW 66th Terrace around 4:30 a.m., Coral Springs Police Captain Ryan Gallagher said in a video posted on the department’s Facebook page on Friday.
Patrol units rushed to the scene and found Examon shot multiple times, lying in his driveway. A witness told police the killing resulted from an attempted armed robbery with a gun, in which Examon was targeted.
According to Gallagher, Examon was also armed with a gun during the attack. Both Auguste and Examon opened fire on one another, and both were wounded, Gallagher said.
Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Rescue rushed Examon to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead.
According to Gallagher, investigators soon learned Auguste had been dropped at Florida Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale with multiple gunshot wounds to his leg.
“We made contact with the suspect and also located a vehicle that matched what was observed by detectives on surveillance video fleeing from the scene,” Gallagher said.
“At this time, our investigation reveals the victim was targeted by the suspect, and [the robbery] was not a random incident. The murder was captured on video surveillance, and the vehicle used to flee the scene was also captured by multiple surveillance cameras in the neighborhood.”
Video released by Coral Springs Police shows a man limping away from the murder scene toward a getaway car, apparently occupied by another person. Gallagher said the investigation into Examon’s killing is ongoing, “but it is important that we reassure our residents that this was an isolated incident in which the victim was targeted.”
Auguste is charged with first-degree murder, police said. It was not immediately clear Saturday whether he was still in the hospital or whether he had yet gone before a judge to be arraigned.
