The Coral Springs High School boys and girls soccer teams capped off a fantastic week with their senior class being honored. The two teams combined to g0 4-1-1 and have a combined record of 13-13-2 this season.
Boys Soccer
For the boys, CSHS scored twice but settled for a 2-2 draw against Fort Lauderdale. The Colts honored Romel Bell, Phil Lanot, McCoy Nish, Kevar Thomas, Julian Peralta-Martinez, Clint Pierre-Louis, and Mikerry Pierre.
Yago Ortiz and Nish scored goals, moving them to 5-6-2 before they fell on Friday to Everglades High School 5-1.
Next, the boys’ team plays Western High School in their final regular-season game on Wednesday, January 19, at 7 p.m. The Wildcats won 4-2 in their only meeting in 2020.
Girls Soccer
The Colts previously beat Monarch High School on Monday after a pair of goals from Brianna McDonald and Andrea Orjuela. Jazmyn Frederick and Luise Pereira had one as well as two assists. Orjuela, Kaylee Gonzalez, Hannah Shay, and Stephanie Calcano also recorded helpers.
Then, on Thursday, despite falling behind 1-0, the Colts picked up a 3-1 win over Fort Lauderdale High School.
The Colts honored three seniors: Kaylee Salvatierra, Shay, and Katherine Cova. Head Coach Mike Guardino remarked how inspirational they have been.
“The past two years with Covid and an upside-down world, they have been unfazed and continue to work at their craft in the face of the unknown. That is not easy to do. And they take it in stride and continue to fight to win games.”
Offensively, Shay, Fabiana Villegas Farias, and Orjuela scored goals. Salvatierra and Josefine Majdoch picked up assists as the Colts moved to 7-6 this year.
Then, on Friday, CSHS beat Everglades 7-1 as Orjuela, Sophie Franklin, recorded two goals. Stephanie Calcano, Katherine Cova, and Brianna McDonald had one set up on assists from Majdoch, Frankin, Calcano, Orjuela had assisted.
The girls’ team plays their final regular-season game against Western High School on Wednesday, January 19, at 5 p.m.
