The Coral Springs Museum of Art has announced a series of upcoming exhibitions featuring the works of Edison Peñafiel, Amanda Linares, Mitzi Falcón, and Kristin Beck.
These shows will run from August 1 to October 5, with an opening reception on August 1 at 5:30 p.m.
According to the Museum, Edison Peñafiel’s “Barrio Alto” delves into the disparities in housing construction costs, using cardboard as the primary medium to highlight the fragility and impermanence of human habitats.
The series draws inspiration from Malvina Reynolds’s song “Little Boxes,” which encapsulates the American dream of the 1960s and its impact on society.
Mitzi Falcón’s “Sementerxs” focuses on the LGBTQ+ community through a portrait series of construction workers from Veracruz, Mexico.
Celebrating their femininity amidst Mexico City’s urban sprawl, Falcón’s work challenges societal norms and highlights these individuals’ resilience.
Amanda Linares’ “Dialogues Across Walls” uses a variety of media, from design and drawing to installation and photography, to explore themes of reflection, transparency, and revelation. Her work is inspired by literature and spatial awareness, intertwining poetic language with artistic expression.
In the East Gallery, Kristin Beck’s “Before I Forget” addresses themes of dementia, memory, and identity. Inspired by her father’s battle with dementia, Beck’s series includes portraits, 3D objects, and interactive elements, providing viewers with a deeply personal and communal experience.
Juliana Forero, Arts and Culture Programs Manager at the Coral Springs Museum of Art, highlights the significance of these exhibitions in exploring contemporary issues through powerful artistic mediums.
“The artists involved bring unique perspectives and innovative techniques that will resonate with our audience,” she said.
The museum has also planned several related programs, including artist conversations and public events. On September 14, an Education Open House will be held, offering free access to a range of activities, followed by projections by Alejandra Abad in the evening.
The Coral Springs Museum of Art is located at 2855A Coral Springs Drive.
