Coral Springs’s own Lexi Thompson officially announced that she plans to retire from the LPGA tour at the end of the season.
Thompson, who became the youngest player on tour to qualify for the US Open at age 12, was an 11-time LPGA tour winner, a major champion, and a two-time Olympian. Her first title came at 16 at the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic, and then she won the Chevron Championship for her first major in 2014.
“I’m excited to enjoy the remainder of the year as there are still goals I want to accomplish, Thompson said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life. Time with family, friends, and my trusted companion Leo. I will always look for ways to contribute to the sport and inspire the next generation of golfers.”
