It was a terrific season for the North Broward Preparatory School’s baseball team after winning the 4A State Championship behind three players from Coral Springs: Jacob Gomberg, Shane Huntsberger, and A.J. Cutler as well as team manager Ryan Scanlon.
North Broward Prep went 14-10-1 in the regular season but turned it on in the playoffs as they won their final six games, including the District, Regional, and State Championship.
Gomberg, who is only a sophomore, has already signed to play at the University of Florida after graduating in 2023. Gomberg was on the mound to start in the State Championship game.
It was his first career postseason start as he had previously seven starts and appeared in nine games. Gomberg had a 3-3 record with a 3.84 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 31 innings pitched.
This comes after Gomberg made only three appearances during his freshman season before the year was cut short due to COVID-19.
Huntsberger, who is signed to play at Western Carolina University this fall, was a standout all year. He pitched in 15 games this year, making ten starts, with a record of 7-4 with an ERA of 2.53.
Like Gomberg, Huntsberger struck out more than a batter per inning. This comes after he had an ERA of 1.40 as a junior and .88 as a sophomore.
For Cutler, he appeared in only one game during his freshman season and began his journey as a State Champion.
While Huntsberger will be playing in college next year, both Gomberg and Cutler will be back and be a major part of the 2022 team as North Broward Prep hopes to repeat as State Champions.
