A man is left with an injured back and a damaged scooter after his girlfriend allegedly hit him two times with her car, claiming he had been unfaithful.
On May 22, Coral Springs Police responded to a domestic disturbance call. Upon arrival, Jennifer Roncal Duharte, 38, told officers she had gone through her boyfriend’s phone while sitting inside her vehicle and found proof he had been cheating on her. After her boyfriend witnessed her doing this, she said he intentionally drove his scooter in front of her car so she would hit him.
Officers spoke to Duharte’s boyfriend, the victim, who told a different version of events.
He said it was he who caught Duharte cheating, and as he pulled into their parking lot on his scooter, Duharte drove her vehicle into him, causing him to fall off. He said she then backed up and hit him again.
The victim complained of an injured back and requested medical treatment but refused the EMS worker’s recommendation to go to the hospital.
While on the scene, officers spoke to a neighbor who said he witnessed the entire ordeal while outside on his balcony smoking a cigarette. He confirmed he saw Duharte intentionally strike the victim twice with her vehicle.
According to the witness, the victim was on the ground screaming, “What are you doing?” as Duharte reversed her vehicle and struck him a second time. Officers inspected Duahrte’s vehicle and the scooter and observed minimal damage to both, consistent with a minor collision.
After further investigation, Duharte was placed under arrest and charged with domestic violence, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. She was later released after posting a $10,000 bond.
