A Coral Springs elementary school resource officer was arrested for soliciting a minor for sex.
On January 16, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit received information that Steven J. Daniello, 63, a school resource officer at Westchester Elementary School Coral Springs, was soliciting an underage victim online.
According to the victim, Daniello, a longtime family friend, began conversing with the victim online in September 2020. The conversations escalated to the point that Daniello offered to pay the victim for nude photos, and Daniello and the victim discussed the victim performing sexual acts on Daniello.
Once BSO ICAC detectives started investigating, an undercover detective began conversing with Daniello, who believed he was still communicating with the underage victim.
The subsequent conversations corroborated the information provided by the victim.
According to Chief Clyde Parry, they are aware of the charges against the seasonal school resource officer.
“Once we were notified by the Broward Sheriff’s Office of his arrest and the details of the allegations against Daniello, we notified school administration, and termination proceedings were initiated,” he said in a statement.
CSPD hired Daniello in February of 2017 as a part-time SRO. During his employment with the city, no information has been received that the victim was associated with Daniello’s official position or assignment at Westchester Elementary School.
Detectives arrested Daniello on Monday, Jan. 18, on two counts of soliciting a minor to engage in sexual conduct. Detectives also obtained a search warrant for Daniello’s electronic devices. Bond was set at $30,000 with the condition he surrenders his passport.
The investigation is ongoing.
