Coral Springs Resident Dominic Ferreira Commits to Ivy League Program

Coral Springs resident Dominic Ferreira, one of the top uncommitted pitchers in the Class of 2027, is officially off the board after announcing his commitment to Columbia University.

Ferreira called the commitment an exciting and rewarding milestone, saying it represents years of hard work and sacrifice while giving him the opportunity to continue his baseball career at the next level.

His baseball journey began at just four years old while living in Kuwait, where he quickly developed a passion for the game. Baseball also helped strengthen his bond with his father, a former Division I baseball player. After moving to South Florida, Ferreira continued his development with several travel programs, including the Parkland Pokers, Anglers, and Chiefs.

Ferreira has spent the past two seasons on the varsity baseball team at American Heritage High School, making 16 appearances while helping his program capture a state championship and reach another State Semifinal.

As a sophomore, he appeared in 10 games, including eight out of the bullpen, recording two saves with a 3.96 ERA. He took another step forward during his junior season, posting a 1.05 ERA in six appearances. Ferreira also earned a victory, held opposing hitters to a remarkable .059 batting average, and was selected to compete in the 2026 Senior Future Games.

His team has won 50 games over the past two seasons. After finishing ranked No. 4 nationally in 2025, the program returned to the State Semifinals this spring before falling to Bishop Moore in 11 innings.

Ferreira said Columbia stood out because of its combination of elite academics and competitive Division I baseball. He also developed a strong connection with the coaching staff and believes the program provides the ideal environment to continue developing both as a player and as a student.

Academically, Ferreira has always taken pride in balancing his studies with baseball, never allowing his schoolwork to slip while pursuing his athletic goals.

“The discipline and time management required to succeed in both helped me grow as a student-athlete,” Ferreira added. ” My commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the field ultimately led me to commit to a school that shares those same values and supports my success in both areas.”

Columbia is coming off a 16-win season while competing in the Ivy League. The Lions have reached the NCAA Tournament eight times in program history, most recently in 2025, when they recorded victories over East Carolina and Florida International. Columbia has also produced 27 MLB Draft selections, with 15 former players reaching the major leagues.
