The honors continue to come for Arheanna Bryan, the leading female wrestler at J.P. Taravella High School.
She earned first place in the 190-pound category at the Fargo Beach Championship by winning six matches. The competition took place on the beach volleyball courts at North Dakota State University, with about 200 girls participating. To score a point, each wrestler had to place her opponent on the sand, and the first to score three points won the match.
“It was intended to be a fun event, but the girls got very competitive about it, and Arheanna won,” said her coach, Michael Bazos.
In the main competition, the U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals, held July 16-18 at the Fargodome in North Dakota, Bryan went 3-2 in freestyle wrestling and reached the round of 16.
“We wanted to see how she would do against some of the best competition in the nation, and she did very well and exceeded expectations. This was only her second freestyle wrestling tournament,” said Bazos.
Next, Bryan may compete in the Super 32 Challenge wrestling tournament in September in Greensboro, North Carolina, also one of the most competitive in the nation. And then she will begin preparing for the upcoming high school wrestling season.
Bryan is ranked the number one female wrestler at 190 pounds in Florida and has received college wrestling scholarship offers, according to Bazos.
