Some of our very young and talented residents will be performing a live rock performance at at Lefty’s Tavern and Grill, Tuesday, August 27th, their second concert this month.
These middle and high school students who are part of the group The Mind Manifest are part of the School of Rock House Band, an audition based ensemble who will be playing songs from classic rock bands such as Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and The Beatles as well as original music with blues and psychedelic influences.
Carl LaManto, 13, bassist for The Mind Manifest and eight grade student at Forest Glen Middle School said he likes performing. “I like the applause and connecting with the audience.”
LaManto started playing music at age 5 and joined School of Rock at age 10. “It [School of Rock] gets me out playing in the real world playing gigs, with the help of the instructors.”
Lead guitarist and vocalist, Ben Sparaco,15, who will be a junior at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland said that the music will be great for people young and old. “We’ve been successful at getting people our age to enjoy the music too.”
At the age of five, Sparaco asked his parents for an electric guitar. Since then he has been busying playing, but only started getting serious when he joined School of Rock at the age of ten. He just finished up a tour with the School of Rock USA Allstars, where he played at Gramercy Theatre in New York City, Union Station in Philadelphia and all three days at Gathering of the Vibes Festival in Bridgeport, CT.
Drummer Jared Zim, 16, who is a senior at Cypress Bay High School in Weston has music in his genes. His grandfather, Sol Zim, is a world renowned cantor and performer. Zim started playing drums at 12 years old when his dad opened his first School of Rock location in Coral Springs where Jared spends much of his time at School of Rock practicing his music.
During their appearance, the band will play both classic rock as well as include songs they wrote.
“We have six original songs that we will be playing and many of our covers are adopted versions,” said Sparaco.
