A boy accidentally leaves his iPhone on the counter of a major retailer in Coral Springs and minutes later it’s gone. To add insult to injury, the store refuses to release the surveillance of who actually took it.
Iriak Delgado, said his 11 year-old son accidentally left his phone on a counter near the firearm area between 1:30 and 2:00 p.m while the boy was looking at frisbees nearby. After they discovered it missing, he called and texted the phone, but realized it was quickly shut off. So Delgado approached Manager Kara Gibbons to see if they could check surveillance cameras for the culprit, but her answer surprised him.
She told him he needed a subpoena.
Delgado immediately contacted Coral Springs Police, but the store manager told the officer that he couldn’t review surveillance of the incident as well.
Delgado said the officer told him that in past investigations Dick’s had been uncooperative in releasing any surveillance. “He said that’s the worst place to get information as employees, including managers, are uncooperative with law enforcement.”
Coral Springs Police Sgt. Carla Kmiotek said, “That is not the norm. Usually stores are cooperative.”
Delgado said he almost had some luck when the “find my phone” feature worked for a bit when the phone was activated by Riverside Drive and University Drive at a bus stop, but it was quickly turned off within minutes. The family also contacted the corporate headquarters of Dick’s, but they weren’t much help either.
We contacted Dick’s Sporting Goods Manager Bryan Mose who had no comment regarding the incident and referred us to their corporate offices which are closed on Sundays.

Bad neighbors! Will start spreading the news on Twitter. People need to know when stores are uncooperative with local law enforcement.
And now we shop elsewhere.
11 year old boy with an iPhone presumably away from his parents, in the firearm section. o_O
So what? Are you just trying to manufacture some false outrage?

Wow, pointless post of the day award…
I was in the firearms section, never left it, he went to look at Frisbee and bow & arrows so explain to me where your comment makes sense if you weren’t there please?
What difference does it make which section he was in? If he was next to girls clothing, would you label him a pervert? This is a case of theft that smells like “Employee Theft”
Not hard really we would just request a search warrant for the video.
Well legally their correct in requesting a warrant for it.
However Coral Springs can legally revoke their operational license without cause, ” it has happend many times over here in the Tampa area” and can shut them down using the PD to enforce it.
So if the city wanted to flex a little muscle this could be solved very quickly.
Wouldn’t mind seeing a bit of chaos in this sleepy little town.
Yes they do have that right and it would be nice to know why they have the policy they have, as there may be a good reason for it. The City shouldn’t pull any license for anyone who is exercising their legal right period, nor should they run…..get a warrant!
This City is not so ‘sleepy’ Schnitt, after all, our City Counsel just removed all prayer from it’s meetings rather than allow the ‘Satanists’ to have their turn…..THEY CAVED AND FOLDED! (Wish we had a poker night where the community could play against the City Officials; think there is $ to be made there ;)
Great radio show, keep up the great work.
Guess I’ll keep going to Sports Authority
