Employee Confesses to Selling Over $100,000 Worth of Stolen Radios on eBay

A man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he orchestrated an elaborate scheme to steal and resell more than $107,000 worth of communication equipment from his employer.

According to a Coral Springs Police Department arrest report, on April 2, officers responded to Express Radio Incorporated, located at 10852 Wiles Road, after company executives discovered that a longtime employee, identified as David Jason Dean, 54, of Plantation, had allegedly been stealing inventory and selling it online without authorization.

According to the company’s president, who filed the initial complaint, the thefts came to light following a recent upgrade to the business’s internal tracking system. Between January 1 and March 31, an audit revealed that numerous high-value items—including two-way radios and repeater systems—had gone missing. Some boxes were found empty, while other products were entirely unaccounted for.

Records show that further investigation revealed that the missing merchandise had been listed for sale on eBay between January 5 and March 28 through a seller account named “deepdiscountsnow.”

Investigation records show that detectives confirmed that at least four listed items matched the stolen inventory’s serial numbers. The seller’s linked PayPal account was traced back to Dean, who had an old address on file in Kissimmee.

On April 3, police located and took Dean into custody. Upon interview, he admitted to stealing and selling the merchandise on eBay and transferring the proceeds into his personal PayPal and bank accounts.

Police estimate the total value of the stolen property to be $107,901.52.

Dean was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
