Faith Communities Unite at Coral Springs/Parkland Interfaith Prayer Service

Rabbi Michelle Goldsmith of Temple Beth Am in Margate loves to see members of various faith groups come together for fellowship events.

Goldsmith participated in the Coral Springs/Parkland Pre-Thanksgiving Interfaith Unity Prayer Service at Saint Andrew Catholic Parish on Tuesday, November 26. Leaders of area faith groups participated and presented prayers, songs, and readings.

“I grew up participating in interfaith worship services and loved participating in this one. It is good for the community,” said Goldsmith.

Former Coral Springs commissioner Joy Carter was glad to see people from religious traditions spending time together.

“I love this service because it encourages unity. We are all one in God,” said Carter.

Reverend Andrew Toronto of Saint Elizabeth Catholic Ann Seton Parish in Coral Springs believes it is essential for the religious community to be unified and care for one another.

“We should give thanks to God and see the good in other people,” he said.

Andrew Susman, a cantorial soloist at Temple Beth Orr in Coral Springs, believes unity events are good.

“This was a very positive experience, and it was good to see many faith groups getting together for a service,” he said.

Debbie Hafetz, a cantor at Temple Kol Tikvah in Parkland, liked being part of the service and seeing people from area congregations spend time together.

Coral Springs Mayor Scott Brook and Parkland Mayor Rich Walker each read Thanksgiving proclamations. After the various congregations made their presentations, everyone stood and sang “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” “God Bless America,” and “America the Beautiful.”

After the service, attendees enjoyed fellowship and refreshments.
