Since welcoming Dr. David Barry as senior pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Coral Springs has gained a new family and church leader.
In March, David, his wife, Katie, and their two-year-old son, Eli, moved from Georgia into their Eagle Trace home.
He is the church’s fifth senior pastor, succeeding Dr. Drew DiNardo, who now lives in Pennsylvania, serving St. Stephens Presbyterian Church.
“Being the Senior Pastor means I’m the primary preacher, head of staff, and moderator of the session,” said David, adding this is a board of elders who share church leadership.
On April 24, David was officially installed as pastor of First Presbyterian during the evening worship service and whole-heartedly welcomed by the church.
The new pastor said his sermons are meant to accomplish two things: explaining and showing how to apply the Bible’s teachings.
“I want them to know Jesus. That’s not the same thing as knowing about him. I know a lot of things about people I’ve never met. That’s not what I’m after or what a worship service is for,” he said.
The pastor has had many years to study and perfect his craft. He has both a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in divinity and theology, and his career as a preacher has taken him all over the world.
This new stop in Florida has been one of the better ones.
“One month in, we’re sold. We love Coral Springs and being so close to the ocean. We love watching the golfers and the birds and other wildlife from our back patio. It’s a beautiful place,” said David.
He added the congregation at First Presbyterian Church has been nothing but gracious and welcoming.
“They have babysat for us, helped us unpack, and received us with a lot of warmth. To me, it’s a testament of how Christians are united by love for Jesus, which overflows to loving the people who love him––even if you haven’t known them for long.”
First Presbyterian Church is located at 2251 Riverside Drive, with Sunday services at 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
