Residents of the Coral Springs-Parkland corridor now have access to an additional layer of emergency medical response after Hatzalah South Florida officially expanded its ambulance and transport operations into the area, stationing its first ambulance in Coral Springs.
The announcement, made by Hatzalah South Florida, marks a significant expansion for the volunteer-based emergency medical services organization. Hatzalah — whose name means “rescue” in Hebrew — is a Jewish-founded, volunteer-run ambulance service that responds to medical emergencies and provides transport care at no cost to patients, funded entirely through community donations.
Inspired by the Talmudic teaching that one who saves a life is considered to have saved a world, Hatzalah volunteers serve people of all backgrounds and faiths, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
Hatzalah’s roots date back to the 1960s in New York City, when Hershel Weber, a Hasidic Jew in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, recognized that a locally run, volunteer-based EMS with knowledge of the community could improve rapid emergency medical response. From those origins, Hatzalah has grown into an organization operating in communities and countries worldwide.
As the Coral Springs-Parkland area continues to grow, Hatzalah South Florida said it remains committed to ensuring the community has access to fast, compassionate, and professional emergency medical care. The organization also expressed deep gratitude to Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Rescue and the Coral Springs Police Department for their partnership and ongoing support throughout the expansion process, and said it looks forward to continued collaboration.
With the new ambulance now in service, Hatzalah South Florida is actively looking to expand its volunteer membership in the area.
