Several area schools were nominated for Cappie Awards including Coral Glades, Coral Springs, J.P. Taravella and Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Monarch, and North Broward Prep.
Nominees from 26 schools in Broward and Palm Beach will compete for the awards in 48 categories. The awards recognize performers, orchestras, designers, technicians, publicists, and critics.
Modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Cappies Awards will feature songs and scenes from the top-nominated shows.
The 22nd Annual Cappies Awards are held at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and South Florida Cappies Inc. on Tuesday, May 21, at 7 p.m. in the Au-Rene Theater.
Cappie Award nominations are made by student critics from participating schools who attend productions at rival schools and write reviews. These reviews are then edited by theater educators and published on FloridaTheaterOnStage.com. Winners are determined by student votes through a weighted peer-review voting process.
