The Panthers Ice Den was buzzing with energy Friday night as more than 50 students joined Make Our Schools Safe (MOSS) for its “Skate for School Safety” event — an evening dedicated to leadership, community, and a shared mission to make schools safer nationwide.
Hosted by MOSS and led by Club Director Allison Cohen, the Oct. 24 event brought together students from MOSS Clubs across Broward County for a night of skating, music, and camaraderie. Participants enjoyed dinner and free skating courtesy of the nonprofit, turning the rink into a place where fun met purpose.
“Watching students skate together for a shared mission was inspiring,” said Cohen. “They weren’t just having fun, they were creating a movement rooted in leadership, kindness, and community.”
The event highlighted the growing influence of MOSS Clubs, student-led organizations that promote advocacy, preparedness, inclusion, and mental wellness in schools.
Founded by Lori and Ilan Alhadeff in memory of their daughter Alyssa, who was killed in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, MOSS is a national nonprofit dedicated to protecting students and teachers by implementing common-sense safety measures and empowering youth through MOSS Clubs nationwide.

“I’m so proud of our students for stepping up and skating for change,” said Lori Alhadeff, founder and CEO. “Events like this prove that when students lead with heart, they can make a powerful difference — on and off the ice.”
