After a confrontation over the shared custody of their child grew heated, a Coral Springs man was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for threatening his ex-girlfriend with a gun.
On January 31, Coral Springs Police responded to a call at the 11500 block of NW 37th Street and met with the victim claiming her ex-boyfriend had pointed a gun at her after a verbal dispute over the care of a child they have in common.
According to the report, the victim was standing in a parking lot waiting for the child’s father, later identified as Tariq Chin, 24, to drop off her child. Officers were told that when Chin arrived late, a verbal dispute ensued, and according to the victim, he removed a firearm from the vehicle and began pointing it at her, threatening that if she didn’t move, he would shoot her.
The victim and her girlfriend — who was also a witness — told officers that after removing the firearm from its holster, Chin racked the side of the gun, clearly readying it to shoot. He then pointed it at the victim’s chest and yelled, “Get back, get back. I’m not playing with you.”
According to the report, the victim told officers she feared for her life and quickly ran away towards her residence to call 911. Her girlfriend, who was standing across the parking lot at the time, took the child out of the car, and then Chin sped away, leaving the scene without any further altercation.
Following their interviews, officers attempted to contact Chin — both by telephone and at addresses they were provided — but were unsuccessful. On February 1, Chin met with officers at his residence, where he admitted to taking his gun out of his vehicle and pointing at the victim.
Chin was arrested and taken to the Broward County Main Jail. He posted a $750 bond the following day and was released.
