A 59-year-old man was killed Friday when the car he was driving struck a tree in Coral Springs, police said.
Officers responded to the 3900 block of Coral Ridge Drive at approximately 4:21 p.m. on July 24, according to the Coral Springs Police Department.
A preliminary investigation found that Vitali Lichtenstein, of Pembroke Pines, was driving a 2024 Mercedes-Benz sedan south in the right lane when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle either changed lanes or veered into the left lane, police said.
The Mercedes struck the curb of the center median, mounted the curb and collided head-on with a tree, police said.
Officers found Lichtenstein in need of medical attention when they arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to investigators.
The crash remains under investigation. Authorities said no additional information was available.
