Meera Hammad, formerly the Interim General Manager and Marketing Director of Coral Springs Center for the Arts, has been chosen to helm the facility as its General Manager, according to a statement from the City of Coral Springs on Monday.
She replaces former manager Bill Haggett, who took a position in June in Sandy Springs, GA, at their performing arts center.
Hammad’s responsibilities as General Manager encompass a broad range of duties, from handling daily operations, including staffing and ticketing, to managing upcoming programming, which features diverse shows.
Having served as Interim General Manager since June of this year, Hammad’s career with The Center began in May 2014, when she undertook the role of Marketing Director. In this capacity, she was pivotal in orchestrating entertainment marketing, media buying, content generation, and graphic design for over 50 shows per season at the center.
With The Center’s operations moving under the City of Coral Springs’ jurisdiction as of October 1, 2023, Hammad, now a city employee, is eager to blend her profound love for theater with her commitment to the city’s vision of being the leading community for living, working, and family life.
“Coral Springs is where I grew up and now where I am raising my own family,” Hammad said. “I witnessed how far the facility has progressed over the years, and I’m equally as excited – joined by my dedicated team – to bring forward a new slate of unforgettable experiences to the community.”
In a strategic move, the City of Coral Springs is introducing a hybrid management blueprint for The Center. This includes utilizing both a theater consultant (Art Center Management) and in-house staff to run The Center while increasing the potential for other rental requests, ultimately aiming to grow the types of entertainment activities offered and possible uses for the facility.
The city anticipates the new model to be cost-neutral and will adopt a cost-recovery model to guide decisions related to operating the facility.
Hammad will be under the guidance of the City of Coral Springs Deputy City Manager, Dale Pazdra, who will play a crucial role in overseeing the transition to this new paradigm and providing unwavering support to The Center’s staff.
Pazdra remarked on the city’s aspirations, saying, “The city’s vision is to widen The Center’s scope for public use, diversifying the entertainment activities provided. With Meera’s unyielding passion, dedication, and adaptability, she is the quintessential choice for steering this transition. Collaborating with her will indeed fortify our dedication to the arts and enhance our sense of pride in this asset.”
Hammad’s academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in business marketing from Florida Atlantic University. After her studies, she ventured to Los Angeles for six years, serving as a Talent Agent at a renowned agency. Her decision to return to Coral Springs was driven by her aspiration to nurture her family and employ her professional acumen at a local level.
She is married to Gabe Hammad — who used to work at The Center as the Box Office Director but now works in Doral at a Latin touring company called Loud and Live. They have two boys, eight and five.
“It’s incredibly fulfilling to utilize my talents and experience in a way that benefits the city I have always called home,” Hammad said.” I look forward to growing, both personally and professionally, in the city with everything under the sun.”
