A bizarre incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon at the North Springs Plaza in Coral Springs, where a mentally ill man was running naked through the shopping center.
The man’s behavior caused alarm among shoppers and local residents, who were shocked by the scene.
Eyewitnesses reported that the man was behaving erratically and shouting unintelligibly as he made his way through the plaza.
He reportedly ran into the Target store at 9600 Westview Drive, where he continued his erratic behavior.
Coral Springs resident Nick DiBenedetto, who witnessed the incident, described the man’s behavior as “crazy ranting” and said it was “traumatizing” for his wife and stepdaughter.
“He was completely naked with no regard for the families or little kids that were around him witnessing the crazy rant he was doing,” said DiBenedetto. “I did not witness what he was doing in the beginning, but I did witness the cops escorting him out slowly to the police car with not one piece of clothing on.”
Coral Springs Police were called to the scene and detained the man, who was later identified as suffering from a mental illness. The police took the man to a nearby mental health center for evaluation under the Baker Act.
