Juvenson Sudney {BSO}
A Pompano Beach man is accused of impersonating a Bank of America fraud investigator and stealing $40,000 from a Coral Springs woman during a multi-day phone scam.
Coral Springs Police Department arrest records show Juvenson Sudney, 37, faces charges of grand theft, organized scheme to defraud, and identity theft in connection with the incident, which investigators say began on September 25.
According to police, the victim reported receiving multiple phone calls each day between September 25 and September 29 from someone claiming to work in Bank of America’s fraud department.
The caller allegedly told her that an unauthorized $300 purchase was attempted in West Palm Beach and that a $42,000 wire transfer was also attempted but canceled. Investigators said the victim was provided a fictitious cancellation number to make the claims appear legitimate.
On September 29, the victim, a resident at the Palm Point Apartments located at 11775 West Atlantic Boulevard, received another call stating that another attempt to withdraw money from her account had been made. Police said the caller instructed her to withdraw $40,000 in cash from her Bank of America account and remained on the phone with her throughout the process.
Investigators said the victim was instructed to place the cash in a bag labeled “FDIC” and told that a car and driver would be sent to retrieve it.
Security video from the Palm Point apartment complex shows Sudney arriving at the property on September 29 and requesting entry through the visitor access system, police said. Additional footage later captured Sudney placing a bag of money into the rear of his vehicle after stopping at the victim’s apartment building.
After the exchange, the victim told investigators she began to feel something was wrong. Police said the caller then pressured her to withdraw an additional $40,000, claiming it was necessary to prevent further fraud allegedly being carried out by internal Bank of America employees.
Shortly afterward, the caller ended the phone call and stopped responding, and he never picked up the additional $40,000.
Using security footage from Palm Point and license plate reader data, investigators identified Sudney and confirmed his vehicle was at the complex at the time of the incident, according to police. The victim later identified Sudney in a lineup.
Sudney eventually turned himself in and was booked into the Broward County Main Jail, where bond was set at $110,000.
