Eric Michael Mills {BSO}
A fraud suspect created fake YouTube videos claiming CNN deleted past stories, while also allegedly stealing hundreds of thousands from homeowners in multiple construction schemes.
According to Broward County Sheriff’s Office investigative records, Eric Michael Mills, 47, was first taken into custody on March 30 after turning himself in at the Broward Main Jail on a warrant for grand theft exceeding $100,000.
Authorities say that the arrest marked the initial case in what investigators describe as a broader pattern of alleged fraud.
In that case, Coral Springs police allege that Mills stole $240,348 from a homeowner associated with a roughly $1.2 million construction project. According to investigators, Mills, who operated under VDG Architecture, also known as Virtual Design Group, moved large portions of construction loan funds into his own accounts and shuffled money between accounts to conceal their origin.
Investigators say the funds were intended for construction but were instead diverted for personal use, with transactions structured to obscure the movement of money. Mills was charged with grand theft over $100,000 and money laundering in that initial case.
In a bizarre twist, it also appears that Mills— or someone connected to him—previously attempted to shape public perception online through questionable media tactics.
A YouTube account operating under the name “Citizens News Network” has posted videos claiming that CNN issued retractions and apologies related to allegations against Mills.
The videos, which appear to mimic legitimate news broadcasts, include titles suggesting major media outlets “redacted” prior reporting. However, there is no evidence that CNN ever published such reports or issued any retraction, raising questions about the content’s authenticity.

The channel itself has minimal following and limited activity, further fueling suspicion that the videos may be fabricated or misleading.
Court records and prior lawsuits paint a deeper and more troubling picture of Mills’s conduct. Records show he has been sued at least three times for breach of contract, with clients alleging unfinished work, improper construction, and misrepresentation.
In one case on Las Olas Boulevard, homeowners paid more than $110,000 and incurred additional costs exceeding $150,000 before discovering that Mills allegedly lacked proper licensing and failed to secure the required permits.
A judgment in that case totaled more than $415,000, and as of early 2026, the property remained vacant.
State records further show Mills had been fined by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation for posing as an architect without a license.
Authorities say the alleged conduct did not stop there.
On April 6, Mills was arrested again in a separate case investigated by the Sunrise Police Department, where he now faces additional charges, including grand theft, organized fraud, and two counts related to operating as an unlicensed contractor.
According to that investigation, Mills allegedly took $40,680 from a victim between May and September 2025 for a mezzanine construction project that was never completed. Detectives say Mills claimed he would design and coordinate fabrication of the structure, but the manufacturer later confirmed no order had ever been placed.
Police allege Mills provided false updates, fabricated shipping timelines, and failed to deliver any materials or perform any work. His contractor license had expired years earlier, investigators said.
Mills has since posted a $35,000 and been released from the Broward County Main Jail.
