Two local leaders are teaming together to spread holiday cheer.
Coral Springs Commissioner Joshua Simmons and State Senator Tina Polsky, who also represents the city, are hosting a holiday toy giveaway on Thursday, Dec. 22, at Living Word Christian Center, located at 3301 Riverside Drive.
The holiday toy giveaway will start at 5:30 p.m. and continue through 7:30 p.m.
Enhance Health, which has an office in Coral Springs at 3111 N. University Drive will sponsor the event.
According to Simmons, Enhance Health reached out to him and wanted to help in any way they could. He stated the company is crucial because they help those in need get affordable health insurance and educate them about their insurance options.
They are also donating all of the toys that will be given out.
Polsky, whom he said is a great partner in the city, also wanted to assist with his efforts.
“It’s everybody coming together and wanting to spread some joy and cheer this holiday season,” Simmons said. “We wanna make sure people are happy during the holidays.”
He stated he hopes to distribute between 200 and 300 toys for youth between infancy and adolescence.
Simmons said this event is especially important because it is one way he, Polsky, and Enhance Health hope to give back to the community.
The holidays, Simmons said, can be a mixed bag. Some people can enjoy Christmastime and afford toys and presents, while others cannot. He mentioned every kid should be able to go back to school and be happy about the gifts they received.
For Simmons, the event’s primary purpose is to give local families who might not be able to afford presents the opportunity to enjoy the holidays.
“It’s always our job for those who have [the resources] to give back to those in need,” he said. “If anyone knows of anyone in need, please send them. We are trying to help them out.”
