Six residents were recognized for their outstanding volunteer service to the City of Coral Springs during a ceremony held Saturday, Feb. 7, at Coral Springs City Hall.
The annual Lynne Johnson Awards honor individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to the community through volunteerism. The awards are named in memory of Lynne Johnson, a longtime city volunteer who died in 2009 and whose legacy of service continues to inspire others.
This year’s recipients represent a range of volunteer efforts benefiting youth, seniors, the arts, the environment and community services.
Valerie Campbell received the Seniors Making a Difference award for her service with the Coral Springs Police Department’s Summer Youth Program and Angel Tree Toy Distribution. For the past three years, Campbell has helped chaperone field trips, assist with activities and support toy distribution efforts that benefit more than 1,000 children each holiday season. City officials said her kindness and dedication help create a welcoming environment for youth, particularly those from underserved families, while strengthening relationships between local families and the Police Department.
The award for Enhancing and Preserving the Natural Environment in Coral Springs was presented to Satya Rudin, a Master Gardener who has contributed hundreds of volunteer hours to the Coral Springs Community Garden. Rudin organizes workdays, coordinates volunteers, manages garden registrations and oversees food donations. Under her leadership, more than 200 pounds of fresh produce were donated to residents in need last year. Officials noted her efforts also promote sustainability and bring together gardeners from diverse backgrounds.
Denise Fatigate was honored for her decades of work with youth in sports, including her current role as president of Coral Springs Youth Soccer. Fatigate has served as a coach, board member and league leader while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship and inclusivity. City officials credited her leadership with helping ensure a positive environment where all children have the opportunity to participate and grow through sports.
The Enhancing the Lives of Coral Springs Residents award went to Janice Zaitz, who has volunteered in the city for decades. Zaitz currently chairs the Coral Springs Community Chest and serves on the Coral Springs Martin Luther King Jr. Committee. Officials praised her long-standing commitment to encouraging community involvement and supporting residents in need.
For her contributions to the arts community, Diane MacInnes received the Committed to Enhancing City Services award. A volunteer with the Coral Springs Museum of Art, MacInnes assists with family programs, exhibition receptions, youth classes and event preparation. She frequently takes on leadership roles and promotes museum events throughout the community, helping increase engagement and participation.
The Youth Making a Difference award was presented to Brody Sullivan, who volunteers with the Coral Springs Museum of Art’s summer camps and special events. Officials highlighted his efforts this year in helping clean and prepare a classroom to safeguard the museum’s private collection ahead of plumbing repairs, saving staff significant time and ensuring programming continued without disruption.
City officials said volunteer contributions remain vital to Coral Springs programs and services. In 2025 alone, volunteers contributed more than 20,000 hours to support city operations and events.
