Keiten Lavern Brooks {BSO}
A man was arrested by Coral Springs Police after he was allegedly caught with a stolen vehicle and fled from officers before crashing at an intersection.
According to a CSPD report, on February 7, Keiten Lavern Brooks, 19, of Hollywood, was charged with grand theft following a high-speed, dangerous pursuit.
According to the probable cause affidavit, officers responded to a residential address around 3:45 a.m. after a woman reported that her black 2024 Dodge Durango had been stolen from her driveway by an unknown male dressed in all black. The victim told police she witnessed the theft through her Ring doorbell camera.
The victim reported that she still had the vehicle’s only key fob and had placed a Tile tracking device inside the Durango, which was actively transmitting the vehicle’s location. The tracker led police to the 2400 block of Northwest 92nd Avenue, where Broward Sheriff’s Office aviation and K-9 units were also dispatched.
The report shows officers canvassing the area spotted the stolen Durango parked on the grass along the west side of Northwest 92nd Avenue, with a blue Chevrolet Camaro parked directly behind it. When officers approached with lights and sirens activated, they observed a masked male in the driver’s seat, with Brooks standing in the open driver-side door of the Durango.
According to police, both vehicles attempted to flee. The driver of the Durango reversed and nearly struck the officer’s patrol car. Brooks ran to the Camaro and drove northbound before crashing at the intersection of Northwest 92nd Avenue and Northwest 25th Court.
CSPD records show Brooks exited the Camaro holding what officers described as a “black and red computer-type electronic device” consistent with equipment used in vehicle reprogramming and thefts. He then fled on foot.
After a foot chase, Brooks was arrested. The second suspect, the masked driver of the Durango, fled on foot in a separate direction and was not apprehended. The report provides no information on whether the stolen Durango has since been recovered.
A subsequent investigation revealed that the Chevrolet Camaro Brooks had been driving was also reported stolen by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
Brooks was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
