South Florida Muslim Federation Cuts Ties With CAIR Florida Over ‘Terrorist’ Designation

The South Florida Muslim Federation on Monday said it had cut ties with Florida’s chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) over its designation as a “foreign terrorist organization” by the state of Florida.
CAIR, which had previously been among the Federation’s listed member organizations, was scrubbed from the Federation’s website after Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier warned Coral Springs officials that state and local resources may not be used by any group affiliated with CAIR due to its terrorist designation.
The statement from Florida’s top prosecutor came two days after Jewish residents urged city leaders at Wednesday’s commission meeting not to host the Federation’s annual Florida Muslim Conference scheduled for Jan. 30-31 at the city-owned Coral Springs Center for the Arts, citing concerns that the event would platform speakers and organizations they allege promote anti-Jewish bigotry, incitement, and anti-Israel extremism, including CAIR.
In a statement reported by South Florida media Monday, the Federation said:
“The South Florida Muslim Federation takes pride in its role representing the Muslim Community in South Florida. The Council on American and Islamic Relations of Florida (CAIR-FL) has been a member of the South Florida Muslim Federation (“SFMF”) since the inception of SFMF.
CAIR-FL has always played an important role in protecting the civil rights of Muslims, and we have never observed any conduct on the part of CAIR-FL that would remotely resemble terrorism. That being said, we understand the Governor issued an Executive Order on December 8, 2025, purporting to designate CAIR-FL a ‘foreign terrorist organization.’ We also understand that CAIR-FL has challenged this designation in Federal Court.
While the issue is still pending in Federal Court, and in an abundance of caution, we have removed all associations of SFMF with CAIR-FL. And we look to our courts to provide guidance on this in the future.”
