After a state championship season, Coral Springs Charter softball standout Bree Martinelli has officially committed to Bryant University in Rhode Island.
“I feel extremely blessed to be able to play softball at the collegiate level, and it’s always been my dream since I was younger,” Martinelli said.
Martinelli began playing baseball at four years old, inspired by her older brother. She transitioned to softball four years later and began dreaming of competing at higher levels. She also joined the Intensity organization, which helped push her to become the best player she could be.
Martinelli made her varsity debut as an eighth grader, hitting .571 in 19 games. She continued to excel during her freshman and sophomore seasons, playing second base and driving in 27 runs while adding nine doubles and four triples.
She also delivered in the postseason, recording three hits in the state semifinals and another in the championship game to help the Panthers capture their sixth state title.
“Winning the state championship was an amazing feeling and an amazing accomplishment as a team,” Martinelli said. “We put in a lot of work and never stopped believing in ourselves, which made us come out on top.”
Head Coach Mark Montimurro praised Martinelli’s dedication and is excited to have her for two more seasons before she heads to college.
“Bree has always understood and personified the Charter softball standard,” Montimurro said. “Very proud that her dedication and unparalleled work ethic have resulted in her dream of playing at the highest level.”
Martinelli said her relationship with the Bryant coaching staff and her campus visit played a significant role in her decision.
She recalled meeting Coach Bianka Bell, who expressed excitement about watching her develop as a player. After attending camp and touring the campus, Martinelli knew Bryant was where she wanted to continue her career, citing her belief in the program’s coaching philosophy
Still, with two years left on varsity before college, she will head off to a team that won 21 games a season ago, with their lone NCAA Tournament appearance coming in 2014.
