The J.P. Taravella and Coral Glades High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams competed at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex on September 10.
The Taravella girls’ team won 90 to 63, and the Coral Glades boys’ team won 89 to 57.
The meet was delayed by rain, but the athletes on both teams competed hard when the meet got underway.
“This was our first meet of the season. I think we did pretty well today, and we will improve,” said Zane Samms, captain of the Taravella boys’ team. He won the 50-meter freestyle and earned second place in the 200 individual medley.
Isabella Lozano earned first place in breaststroke and second place in freestyle for the Trojans. “We have a good team, and we swam well today. Our team is improving,” she said.
Galen Torotorella, a leader on the Coral Glades boys team, participated in the meet and was pleased with the team’s performance. “Our team has good potential,” he said.

Like many of the Coral Glades swimmers, Tortorella swims with highly competitive club teams. “I am committed to swimming, and I want to prepare for the state championship meet,” he said.
Taravella Coach Candy Allen was pleased with the team. “This was our first meet, and we did well. We will improve as the season goes on,” she said.
