Three Year-Old’s Killer Now in Custody

A 12-hour manhunt for the suspect who killed his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son ended Tuesday night with the man being taken into custody in Lauderhill.

Broward Sheriff’s Office SWAT/Fugitive detectives followed leads that took them to the 3900 block of Inverrary Boulevard West. There they spotted Corey Gordon, 28, in a car with his mother and sister. He was taken into custody without incident.

BSO Homicide detectives had responded to Coral Springs Medical Center Monday afternoon after the mother of the child, Chantel Haye, 20, appeared in the emergency room with Khyese Coach’s lifeless body full of bruises.

Monday was Haye’s first day working at a telemarketing company in Boca Raton. Her boyfriend of about a year, Corey Gordon, 28, agreed to take care of little Khyese while she was at work. When Gordon picked up Haye from work at approximately 3:45 p.m., she noticed Khyese unresponsive and with bruises on his body. Haye demanded that Gordon rush her to the hospital. He left her at Coral Springs Medical Center around 5 p.m. and fled.

“He [Gordon] was supposed to be watching my son while I worked,” said Haye. “I saw my son’s face bruised up. I’m thinking my son is sleeping. The whole time my son is dead.”

The Broward County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Khyese and ruled his death a homicide cause by blunt force trauma.

BSO homicide detectives responded to Coral Springs Medical Center Monday afternoon after the mother of the child, Chantel Haye, 20, appeared in the emergency room with Khyese Coach’s lifeless body.

Haye said that Khyese was very loving, very energetic loved to play and laugh. “He had a smile that would brighten any day. He loved his cousin Jahjah and they would would hug each other each day. That was his best friend.”

“I thought he [Gordon] was a good guy, i thought he would be there for me and my son. I thought I met someone I could trust,” said Gordon. “I didn’t know he would take my son away from me. I thought he loved us.”

Gordon was booked into the BSO Main Jail and faces one count of murder in the first degree.
