A man was arrested for falsely imprisoning a woman after she wrote a social media post stating she was “being held hostage” in North Lauderdale, records show.
Albert Myers, 63, who the woman identified as her “ex,” put a “deadbolt on [the] door and stole my purse and [identification and] wallet so that I can’t leave,” the woman wrote in the post, which was shared on Facebook by Coral Springs Police.
The woman’s post continued: “I fear for my life for he has a gun inside and [threatened] to use [it] on me…please send help to 7704 SW 8th Ct. so police can help get me out.”
The Broward Sheriff’s Office sent deputies to the home, where they arrested Myers.
The victim got out safely, authorities said.
As the drama unfolded, Coral Springs Police posted a message on Facebook asking people not to call their city’s 911 operators since the crime happened outside their jurisdiction.
“We are aware of the below photo being shared on social media indicating someone has been kidnapped,” police wrote, referencing the woman’s post. “This incident is being investigated by the Broward Sheriff’s Office as it is not in our city. Please refrain from calling 911 on this matter. Thank you for your understanding.”
Myers was charged with false imprisonment and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Records show he was being held on a $15,000 bond Monday at the Broward Main Jail.
