Coral Springs city officials are ramping up efforts to help students zoned out of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School return to MSD, should seats become available next school year.
Commissioners on Wednesday approved a resolution aiming to help students displaced from MSD to Coral Glades High School during an April 2023 boundary change secure first preference for any seats made available under changes being considered by Broward County Public Schools, city officials said.
To help families navigate the school choice application process, city staff are requesting that those who plan to apply for enrollment at MSD for the 2025-2026 school year complete this form.
Officials said their information will be used to help the city’s education officer, April Wyche, better advocate on their behalf.
The school district has indicated limited seats may become available for the 2025-2026 school year at MSD due to declining enrollment in Broward, according to the city. If openings are confirmed, families interested in enrolling their students should monitor the school choice website for updates.
The application window will open on April 7, 2025, officials said.
The city previously collected names and contact information in 2023 from residents who wanted to stay informed about MSD re-boundary updates.
Officials plan to inform families of any potential MSD seat openings with the latest details as they receive them from the school district. Families and students are also encouraged to email school board officials with their concerns at schoolboard@browardschools.com.
The MSD rezoning, which impacted students from Coral Springs but not Parkland, has been a contentious issue for nearly two years.
In April 2023, after months of hearings and heated arguments, the school board approved a boundary change that rezoned 351 incoming Coral Springs students from MSD to Coral Glades High School over a four-year period.
The change took effect ahead of the 2023-2024 school year.
Coral Springs residents and officials had advocated against the change, arguing the school board did not look at rezoning from a countywide perspective and alleging the MSD rezoning process was flawed.
