The Coral Springs Museum of Art is getting into the holiday spirit with several different events.
The Pine and Palm holiday market takes place Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10. The Friday event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and continue through 8 p.m. Tickets are $10, and the market includes complimentary gift wrapping, small prizes, shopping opportunities, and more.
The Saturday market begins at 10:30 a.m. and continues through 2:30 p.m. It is free to the public. All funds from artwork sales will go directly to the vendors.
There will also be a monthlong exhibition featuring work from local artists.
Jill Brown, museum director, said the idea for a holiday market and exhibition has been in the works for a while.
She stated she’s been following artisans and craft makers who create their products and talking with them about their work. Through this, she’s gained a deeper sense of community.
“I’ve met the most talented, authentic, and down-to-earth people over the years,” she said. “Throughout my career, I’ve always wanted to help small creative businesses thrive.”
During the pandemic, her interest in promoting local and small businesses grew as she saw new businesses flourish while others disappeared.
The museum staff saw themselves as a focus for the art community; she said because Coral Springs is family and community-oriented, the partnership with local artists was a perfect opportunity.
“It allowed us to provide a platform to support artisans and artists while opening our doors to the community,” she said.
The museum hosted its first annual Pine and Palm Holiday Market in 2021, which Brown stated was a great success.
That success led the museum to start a monthlong visual and literary arts exhibition with the theme “Pine and Palm.”
They accepted submissions through October for all media, including photography, video, works on paper, sculptural installations, fine arts, textiles, and literary works.
The exhibition starts on Friday, Dec. 9, and continues through Dec. 31. There will be a reception at the museum on Dec. 15 between 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., where a jury will judge the works and award a cash prize to the winner.
The Coral Springs Museum of Art is at 2855A Coral Springs Dr, Coral Springs, FL.
“Our hope is to continue growing this event and [make] it one of our signature museums events annually,” Brown said.
