Coral Springs’ own Stina D’Agostino has officially signed to play college softball at Nova Southeastern University.
“I’m very excited,” D’Agostino said. “I can’t wait to compete at a collegiate level with such great girls and coaches and continue my academics while playing the sport I love.”
D’Agostino began playing softball when she was four, having previously played recreational ball in Coral Springs. She then transitioned to travel ball and has competed for the Coral Springs Panthers, Gold Coast Hurricanes, Florida Ice, and Florida Elite Tigers.
“I was also lucky to be given the opportunity to guest play over the years,” D’Agostino added. “I believe that it’s such an amazing experience to guest play with different teams because you get to be in uncomfortable situations, and in the end, you get to make a lot of new friends and learn different things from different coaches.”
For CSC, D’Agostino began on the junior varsity team in seventh grade and made her varsity debut in eighth grade, hitting 511 with five doubles and eight RBIs for coach Mark Montimurro. She went on to play one more year with the Panthers, homering four times, and also played on the junior varsity baseball team.
“Montimurro coached and trained me during my time at Coral Springs Charter,” D’Agostino said. “He taught me that there is more to the game then hitting home runs. He showed me the other tools like bunting, baserunning, defense, and coaching can win ball games.”
Despite her great relationship with Montimurro, D’Agostino went on to play her final three years at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, not only hitting for average but also homering 13 times. She batted .432 and also drove in 46 runs before adding two more homers during her senior year.
For College, D’Agostino wanted to compete at a high level and stay close to family, friends, and trainers. After attending the camp, D’Agostino knew that NSU was where she wanted to go, having spoken to Coach Lemaire, Coach Lageyre, and the team.
“Stina is a great ball player and overall athlete, to be honest,” Montimurro said. “I’ve witnessed the improvement over the years. NSU is really lucky to have gotten her to commit there.”
D’Agostino credits many different people who have impacted her along the way, including her trainers, Ryde Rodríguez and Ernesto Punales, along with Montimurro, Craig Ebert, Mike Aldrich, Liz Legacki, Jim Bacaris, Andre Diaz, Amanda Gomes, Kenny Forbes, Paul Kollwitz, Paul Gorlick, Glen Conrad, and Kelvin Vargas.
“Stina is a great ball player and overall athlete, to be honest,” longtime coach Mark Montimurro said. “I’ve witnessed the improvement over the years. NSU is really lucky to have gotten her to commit there.”
D’Agostino will compete for a college team that went 39-16 last year and had a win in the NCAA South Regional Tournament.
