J.P. Taravella High School held a signing day, officially announcing that nine student-athletes will be heading to play college baseball.
The baseball team featured six seniors who signed with Mikael Ghann and Anthony Tizol, set to attend Dominican University in Illinois. Ghann pitched in 27 games during his sophomore and junior years, recording a win and two saves. Despite not pitching due to injury as a senior, he drove in seven runs while the team reached the Regional Semifinals before losing to Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Tizol won three games this past season and pitched to an ERA of 3.02 while also homering four times and driving in 15 runs.
J.C. Martinez will play at the University of North Florida and has homered seven times in the past two seasons. He also drove 48 runs and had 14 doubles to help his team finish with 17 wins this season.
Tyler Morgan is signed with La Salle University after hitting .281 over the past three seasons. As a senior, he had all three home runs, four doubles, and 16 RBIs.
Alex Alomar is signed with Regent University and had a save in seven appearances on the mound this year, while Alvaro Aponte will play at Owens Community College and also pitched in seven games.
Jordan Arriaga from the JPT basketball team will play at St. Thomas University after three seasons on the varsity team. After playing in only three games as a sophomore, Arriaga played in 20 games and averaged 6.5 points per game before improving that total to 9.4 points as a senior. The Trojans also won 42 games during Arriaga’s three seasons.
Victor Dixon wrestled for JPT and will compete at Monmouth University in New Jersey. He capped off his senior year with a District Championship before attending college.
