Girl Scouts Hold Collection to Help Orphan Children in Haiti

Several local Girl Scout troops participated in a collection drive to benefit orphan children in Haiti following the devastation after Hurricane Matthew.

The Everglades Service Unit which is comprised of troops from Coral Springs, Parkland, part of Coconut Creek and Margate organized a “Help for Haiti” in only one week’s time with three different collection sites, securing contributions from local businesses including a generous donation from the Wyndham Boca Raton.

In addition to collecting a wide variety of necessity items, the girls assembled 150 goody bags as a special treat for children in orphanages.

On October 28, several of the participating Girl Scouts met with employees from the company Central Reach who spoke to the girls about their relief efforts in Haiti and shared pictures and videos from a recent flight delivering supplies. Central Reach works with The Global Orphan Project, assisting them in their relief efforts following Hurricane Matthew. The company’s co-founder, a pilot, flies and delivers all supplies directly to orphanages in the heart of Haiti, who were affected by the storm.
