Being afflicted with speech apraxia makes it difficult at times for Jeremy’s to be understood, and taking American Sign Language through his virtual school has helped him communicate with his teacher.
Now his parents want to learn it as well to better communicate with him. On September 20 the Northwest Regional Library in Coral Springs will hold free classes in American Sign Language.
“This will also allow myself and my son’s mom to practice sign language with our son,” said Coral Springs resident Andrew Ladanowski. “It will give me another method to communicate since his speech apraxia makes it difficult for us to understand him at times.”
The program will run for eight weeks with classes starting at 6:00 p.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m. It will include a 30 minute, small group conversation component led by Niccole Pazos CEO/Founder The Bridge Outreach for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Ladanowski said, “25 percent of parents with deaf children do not know sign language. This is a great opportunity for them.”
