Inspired by Hurricane Irma’s impact on Florida, Coral Springs Resident Connor Tomchin applied for the grant, then led the project in partnership with Youth Service America and Disney Be Inspired. Tomchin and his 4-H club members made 36 hurricane supply kits for the The Pantry of Broward, Inc which is a “one-stop shop” for seniors struggling to live on low fixed incomes and grandparents raising their grandchildren.
The boxes were hand delivered and included non-perishable food items, a mini flashlight, emergency packs of water, hand wipes, a toiletry kit, and a deck of cards to help provide entertainment during a storm.
Tomchin is a 10th grade student who attends Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale.
The Glades 4-H Club said they were happy to partner with The Pantry of Broward to help the community prepare for emergencies.
