Coral Springs Hires Two Deputy City Managers

After their deputy city managers left to run other cities, the City of Coral Springs had to go through the recruiting and screening process to find two more. Last month, City Manager Mike Goodrum announced that has hired Melissa Heller, who currently works for the city, and Cynthia Birdsill, from the City of Coral Gables, to fill those spots.
Joining the City of Coral Springs in 2011, Melissa Heller has over 19 years of experience in the public sector. “It is an honor and a privilege to continue serving the residents and businesses of Coral Springs as a deputy city manager,” she said.
Prior to joining the city as its finance director, Heller previously worked for Broward County for more than 12 years. She has extensive experience in the public sector and holds a master’s degree in public administration from Maxwell School at Syracuse University and a bachelor of arts degree in government and women’s studies from Cornell University.
Cynthia Birdsill previously worked for the City of Coral Gables as the economic and cultural development director and served as acting assistant city manager during her tenure there. More recently, she was community and economic development director for the City of Modesto, California. She obtained her law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law, a master of fine art in painting from Towson University, and a bachelor of arts degree from the University of North Carolina.
Former deputy city managers Susan Grant and Jennifer Bramley left the city for other opportunities after being passed over for the top position after City Manager Erdal Donmez retired. Susan Grant was hired as city manager of Aventura, Florida and Jennifer Bramley hired as city manager of Dunedin, Florida.
Goodrum, newly hired in August, said, “I look forward to having Melissa and Cynthia join us and know that their expertise will help to continue delivering exceptional services to our community with the best possible level of service.”
