The Coral Springs Charter School boys and girls basketball team picked up crucial wins on Wednesday night over South Plantation High School.

The girls are now back to .500 at 8-8 with their 53-48 win while the boy’s team had their largest margin of victory this season.

Girls Basketball

The Panthers picked up their second straight win from a strong performance from Kirsten Woods and Chelsea Gedeon.

Woods had a team-high 17 points, and Gedeon finished with 11 points and ten rebounds. They each made two important free throws down the stretch to secure the win. Woods also hit a three-pointer with a 1:30 left in the game to put CSC up by five.

Davina Irizarry also played well, scoring eight points and pulling ten down rebounds. While the Panthers only went six deep, Kat Martinez made a pair of three-pointers in the fourth quarter, and Kiara Meikle was instrumental on defense picking up some key steals.

“It was a total team effort, said Head Coach Kate Hearn. “Defense stepped up, got stops when we needed to, and did exactly what we need to do down the stretch to secure the victory.”

CSC defeated St. John Paul Academy on January 17 and now has won two straight games for the second time this season. The last tie that occurred was over a four say stretch in December when the Panthers beat both West Broward and North Broward Prep.

Boys Basketball

In their second-highest scoring performance of the season, CSC dominated Plantation behind strong performances from a trio of players in a 73-39 win.

Ian Tajalli once again led the team in points with 19 and brought down a game-high 12 rebounds. Kamren Ramssaran scored 18 points, and Peyton Lespeir had 16 and eight assists.

“It was a great bounce-back victory,” said Head Coach Lamar Twitty. “We are looking to stay healthy, and playing our best late is our goal.”

The Panthers lost to Westminster Christian in a Martin Luther King Tournament on Monday but had won three of their last four games before their loss.

Up next, both teams will be back in action on Friday, January 24, with the girl’s team getting the night started at 6 p.m. against Coral Glades High School. Both teams will then play at home against Fort Lauderdale High School later this month while the girls play an extra game against Pine Crest on January 28.
