Anyone entering a city facility in Coral Springs will again be required to wear a facial covering starting Tuesday, officials said.
The policy change was announced Monday in response to Florida’s skyrocketing COVID-19 infection totals. Last week, 73,199 new cases were confirmed statewide as the virus’ Delta variant continued to spread, leading to a test positivity rate of 15.1%.
For the second straight week, Florida led the U.S. in new, confirmed coronavirus infections. The state now accounts for about 20 percent of all new COVID cases nationwide.
“The rapid spread of the COVID-19 Delta Variant is a public health concern, especially for those who are unvaccinated,” said Coral Springs City Manager Frank Babinec. “Since the start of the pandemic, our greatest priority has been protecting the health and safety of our workforce and the residents we serve. We have relied on the guidance and expertise of public health professionals, like our Medical Director, Dr. Peter Antevy, who have recommended we resume the use of facial coverings to reduce the spread of the virus.”
Regardless of their vaccination status, all city employees, visitors, and contractors entering a municipal building will be required to abide by the rule, as they were earlier in the pandemic, Coral Springs officials said.
City officials said the vaccination site at Coral Square Mall remains open Wednesday through Sunday and administers the Pfizer vaccine. No appointment is required. Learn more at www.coralsprings.org/vaccines.
