A Coral Springs Chinese food restaurant was shut down by an emergency order recently after state inspectors found sanitary violations, including food contaminated by live flying insects, records show.
Panda Express, 4190 N. State Rd. 7, was ordered closed Sept. 16 by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s Division of Hotels and Restaurants.
The eatery came into compliance the following day and was allowed to reopen, the records show.
The state inspection – triggered by a complaint – found six violations inside the restaurant: two “high priority” violations involving insects, three basic violations, and one intermediate violation, records show.
Among the state’s findings:
“Live, small flying insects in kitchen, food preparation area, food storage area and/or bar area,” inspectors wrote. “Observed approximately ten live flying insects at drinks machine landing on cup lids and soda dispenser, five live flying insects landing on a bag with salt and container with crushed chili in kitchen, three live flying insects landing on food preparation sink.”
“Food contaminated by live flying insects. Observed live flying insects inside a container with crushed chili.”
“Floor area(s) covered with standing water. Observed standing water on the floor next to walk-in freezer floor.”
“Food contaminated by unsanitized equipment or utensil.”
“No currently certified food service manager on duty with four or more employees engaged in food preparation/handling.”
The state regularly conducts inspections of public foodservice and lodging establishments to ensure compliance with Florida’s sanitation and safety laws.
According to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, each inspection report is a “snapshot” of conditions at the time of the inspection.
“On any given day, an establishment may have fewer or more violations than noted in their most recent inspection,” according to the agency. “An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term conditions at the establishment. Because conditions can change rapidly, establishments are not graded or rated.”
