A woman was beaten so severely during a domestic violence incident that her Coral Springs dentist called police to report the attack when she sought treatment, court records show.
Michael Neal, 25, of West Palm Beach, was arrested for the beating and charged with domestic battery by strangulation, minimizing his victim’s injuries by telling Coral Springs Police he “did not break any bones” nor “leave any permanent scars,” according to an arrest affidavit.
Neal was released from the Broward Main Jail on a $2,000 bond, court records show.
Police said they learned of Neal’s crime after he dropped the woman off at the dentist on Dec. 22. Officers found her crying inside the office—the name and address of which are redacted—after informing the dental team of the attack the night before. Neal was angered upon looking through her phone and finding text messages from other men, the records show.
He punched her in her mouth, eye, and face, causing various injuries, then threw her to the ground and tossed her about, according to the arrest affidavit. He also put her in a chokehold, during which she could not breathe, the records show. The strangulation caused injuries to her neck, police said.
Police arrested Neal, who was still waiting in the car outside the dentist’s office and gave the victim information about how to get a restraining order, according to the affidavit.
Neal was previously arrested and charged with domestic battery in August 2020 for allegedly repeatedly punching a woman as she sat inside his car, records show. According to court files, prosecutors ultimately declined to prosecute, possibly because the victim did not want to cooperate.
