The Kemper Foundation has recently announced the recipients of its $3,000 bilingual literacy grants, awarded to 20 elementary school teachers in the Miami area, including five educators from Coral Springs-Parkland.
As part of the Read Conmigo program, the teachers have been recognized for their dedication to fostering bilingual literacy skills. The grants will contribute to enhancing learning opportunities for Latino and Hispanic students, with a focus on strengthening dual-language proficiency.
Coral Springs-Parkland recipients include Yeanet Dorado, Ramblewood Elementary; Megan Hager, Westchester Elementary; Madelen Resillez, Riverglades Elementary; and Ana Quiroga, Denise Sikorski, and Sara Valentin from Ramblewood Elementary.
The grants are specifically tailored to public and charter elementary school teachers who instruct in Spanish-English bilingual classrooms. The funds can be utilized for various purposes, including procuring educational resources, tools, and materials that facilitate the development of dual-language proficiency.
Additionally, the grants can support teachers’ professional development, enabling them to enhance their instructional methods and stay abreast of the latest research and best practices in bilingual education.
The Read Conmigo program, which is spearheaded by the Kemper Foundation, serves as a catalyst for fostering bilingual literacy and creating equitable learning opportunities for students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
