Authorities arrested a 16-year-old boy accused of making false bomb threats to several local schools and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The Dania Beach teen, whose name was withheld by authorities, allegedly made threats on May 12 to Coral Glades High School in Coral Springs and Coconut Creek High School, among other schools, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

That same day, around 10 a.m., he allegedly called 911 and told the operator, “About to do a bombing at South Broward High School.” The teen said the bombing would happen in about two hours, according to BSO. The school was immediately evacuated.

Minutes later, the teen called 911 again and threatened to commit a shooting at South Broward High School and Attucks Middle School in Hollywood, investigators said. As a result, Attucks Middle School was “secured in place,” according to BSO.

The law enforcement investigation revealed the teen also made false bomb threats while calling into Blanche Ely High School and the airport, “disrupting everyday functions” at the facility, BSO officials said in a press release.

Authorities at BSO’s Real Time Crime Center monitored cameras and searched the schools and airport, finding no actual threat, officials aid.

In less than 24 hours of investigation, detectives with BSO’s Threat Management Unit worked with the Hollywood Police Department, the Coral Springs Police Threat Management Unit, and Coconut Creek Police to identify and arrest the teen, who does not attend any of the schools he threatened, according to BSO.

He was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center and faces charges of written threats to kill, false report of a bomb or firearm, and disruption of a school function.
