We finally had a chance to visit the newer Tacocraft Taqueria & Tequila Bar location in Coral Springs, and it was quite a colorful, flavorful experience.
The location is unique in that the restaurant occupies the bottom corner of the Modera apartments, with no other restaurants in sight. I immediately felt like this was a special destination. It’s a beautiful new indoor/outdoor space with large open windows and doors, soothing blue and green decor, woven wood lamp shades, and a large tree sprouting in the middle.
Not to cast aspersions on other taco joints nearby like Talkin Tacos, but this is clearly a cut above. Everything was flavorful and as colorful as the decor.
Of the three guacamole options, we opted for a special agave-glazed sweet potato and goat cheese variation. Surprisingly, it worked well, with the sweetness of the sweet potatoes countered by the slight bitterness of the goat cheese and some pepitas (pumpkin seeds) for texture.
The tacos are all fantastic, with few exceptions. The carne asada feels so healthy, with a generous helping of watercress and chimichurri aioli. The steaks were cooked perfectly. I opted for flour tortillas, whereas others in the group got corn. There are lettuce-wrapped options for those concerned with gluten.
In my opinion, the chicken al pastor was better than the braised adobo chicken. This wonderful, slightly smoky avocado-tomatillo sauce paired perfectly with charred pineapples, crispy kale, and red pickled onions. It was everyone’s favorite at the table.
Another fan favorite was the Korean short rib taco. The rib meat was falling apart. The gochujang aoki was bright and lively, and the pickled cucumbers and Asian slaw let out a pleasing crunch with each bite.
The final taco that deserves its flowers is the truffle mushroom. The truffle crema was balanced but not overpowering, and the mushrooms were meaty and moist. Throw in some roasted corn, bits of salty Cotija cheese, and fresh cilantro, and I can’t say I’ve ever had a better vegetarian taco.
Since that visit, I have had another chance to pop in for lunch and would like to add that the fajitas are very good. They pull flavors from the charred peppers and have a slightly sweet profile (maybe from the queso frito?), which makes them memorable and different from other ones I’ve had.
As a side note, the margaritas were a bit too sweet and syrupy for those into cocktails for our tastes. Maybe we caught the wrong day/formula/bartender, but it coated through a bit too much. On the flip side, the grilled pineapple old-fashioned was great. Papa’s Pilar Rum, muddled grilled pineapple with bitters and frothy cherry syrup. A lot of flavors meshed very well together.
Overall, between the ambiance and food, our group was gushing about the whole meal. For those who crave ambiance, my mother was very adamant. I let the readers know that the interior decoration is a 10/10 for her. She wanted me to explain that the music was too loud. For reference, this is someone who refers to all types of music above small decibels as “disco” music, so please take this with a grain of salt. The music could have been a tad lower, but we were able to hear each other fine.
I have not been to the other Tacocraft locations, but I’m sure this one will stay my favorite.
